About Me
I am a bioinformatician and molecular biologist with over two decades of experience in computational biology, genomics, and infectious disease research. I am currently based at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary, where I lead bioinformatics efforts to support high-throughput sequencing and multi-omics studies in multiple organisms.
With a professional trajectory spanning North and Central America as well as Europe, I have held research and academic appointments at prestigious institutions including the University of California Riverside, The Scripps Research Institute, and Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
Education & Experience
I earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Virology from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, where I graduated magna cum laude for my work on complex plant virus interactions. I also hold an M.Sc. in Plant Pathology from CATIE, Costa Rica, and an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Agraria in Nicaragua.
At the University of Alberta, I served as Manager and Lead Bioinformatician at The Applied Genomics Core (TAGC), and as a Research Associate in the Department of Medicine, where I contributed to single-cell and metagenomic studies in oncology and liver diseases.
